What would work best for us if we are moving to Chicago ?
My Girlfriend is wanting to attend the Art Institute of Chicago.. I live in St. Louis now and plan on moving over the summer. How much are houses or apts. going for we only need a 1 bedroom. that would be kinda close to the university. half hour drive time would be the furthest distance i would like to be from the college. Also what is the job market like in the City ? any and all information would be appreciated.
The job market hasn’t been great with the economy, however, it is still possible to find jobs here. I guess it depends what kind of a job you are looking for. Rent kind of depends on where you live, obviously the nicer areas are pretty expensive. The Art Institute is in the loop which is VERY expensive and the affordable apartments are small! Look into neighborhoods surrounding downtown. I live between wicker park and Ukrainian Village, near the Division blue line train stop, which gets you to the loop very quickly. I love this area! I am a 23 year old female, only 5′3, i have never felt unsafe at night in the neighborhood. Rent is fairly cheap, but rising. Most of the apartments here have been rehabbed recently. Rent depends on what kind of area you want to live in. Also the areas depend on your price range. Most of the south side should be avoided. Although Bridgeport is good and Pilsen is up and coming (still not very great in some areas though).
